Getting our local on

Check out my new sweet ride! Not that I know anything about bicycles - I just wanted a step through, upright lady-bike (complete with basket please!). This came from a second hand shop, along with mountain bikes for everyone else in the family. It is older than me :) Comfortable to ride..... and Bozeman and the MSU campus is pretty flat so five speed is plenty.

Genuine 1970s; 5-speed
This is a university town complete with people riding bikes everywhere - and lots of old retro/vintage styles along with the mountain bikes galore. Bike racks and cycling routes are numerous. Very limited helmet wearing anywhere though.

In non-bike related news, we have been continuing to explore the town at a lazy pace. Tested a thai takeaway. I am still trialling different supermarkets trying to find the one that fits best. And I finally gave in to my yarn needs and spent up (invested in a new stash?! - you know what I am talking about fellow crafters) at a local yarn store. I have cast on a project already...

Also, we went to the "Bozeman Beach" (aka East Gallatin Recreation Area) yesterday as it was hot (about 32oC and muggy). Since we are about 1000km from the closest ocean, it is lake or river swims as the alternatives to real, salty, complete with surf, beaches. Bozeman isnt big on surface water bodies, more about valleys and mountains - but we found a wee lake that has been designated for swimming, complete with an artificial sand beach (300 feet), shades, jumping jetty, and no dogs allowed. It is a man-made lake on an area that used to be the city dump (dont think about contaminated sites, be ignorant). Luca's highlight was watching freight trains go past a few hundred metres away. I spotted the local brewery lakeside - so we are so going back for a quick half, or two. A bit different to swimming in the glassy waters of Taupo (smaller, warmer, murkier!) but oh so refreshing and enjoyed by all.

  1. What a beaut vintage bike. Lucky town is flat. Quite a difference being nowhere near an ocean. Lucky no monster in that murky water.

  2. Had a bike much like that when I was a teenager, with three speeds. Good times.
